Goosebumps is a children’s horror series written by R. L. Stine. I devoured them from about fifth to seventh grade. This series is one of the first series that made me fall in love with reading. I look back on the books now with rose-tinted glasses, and am reading as an adult to see how well they have held up throughout the years. It’s a surprisingly different experience.
These books are heavily flawed — even more so than the Fear Street books — but that is a large part of their appeal to me.
I am starting with the Classic series of 62 books but may read one or more of the series that spawned afterwards. We’ll see. For now, I hope you enjoy this crazy ride with me. As with the Fear Street books, I have three basic rules for reading and reviewing books by R. L. Stine:
- Do not expect everything to make sense.
- Do not look for literary elements.
- Sit back and enjoy the ride.
Reviews listed here are in order of book number, but I am jumping all around while reading and reviewing. If you wish to read my reviews in the order I read and reviewed the books, check out my Goosebumps tag. Most recent reviews are at the beginning.
