My Online Focus

An old friend, Chris, told me the other day, “Hey, it’s so great you are keeping your shrines online even though you’ve quit that hobby.” I replied, “Thanks! Wait, what?” It occurred to me that although I have an About page, what I hope is clear navigation, and detailed descriptions in each section detailing what you can find on this site, I haven’t really discussed what I’m doing here or what my online plans are. I’ve just kind of been working away and hoping you guys enjoy what I put up. I want to take a minute to talk about where I see the site going, what I enjoy working on and want to continue working on in the future, and give you guys a space to ask questions and clear up any confusion. Having an idea of where I want to go is just as important as knowing where I am.

I see this site having four major focuses: personal blogging, recaps, fan sites, and writing.

A Life Update

Surprise: this post is not about Animorphs. At least it’s not directly about Animorphs. I want to catch you guys up on some things going on in my life.

Summer Semester starts next week. I am taking Biology and Microsoft Applications. I wanted to take Biology in the Summer so that I could focus on just it without having to divide my attention between it and four other classes. As much as I love Math, Science is not my best subject. Weird, I know. I found out I have to have at least 7 credit hours in the Summer to receive Financial Aid, so I looked for a class I could take that would not take away from Biology. I settled with Microsoft Applications, which I’ll be taking on Tuesday evenings. In that class, I’ll be learning how to use Microsoft Office, which I already have experience in, so I’ll mainly be just going through the motions in that class and can spend my study time on Biology. Biology is on Monday and Wednesday mornings, so I only have school Monday through Wednesday this Summer. I can still get a little bit of a break.

Goodbye, Sharkboy

I believe an active website is a living, breathing thing. Before you think about committing me to an insane asylum, let me explain. With a static website, a website you build, upload, and rarely touch after, a lot of planning goes into it. It’s very much a creation. Initial planning may go into an active website as well, and certainly did with this one, but as you continually update it, writing blog entries or whathaveyou, the website begins to develop a life of its own. You discover what you enjoy writing about. You discover what visitors respond well to and want to see more of. You discover what works, and what doesn’t. You come up with better or more organized ways of creating and presenting content. You may make new layouts. You may change navigation or organization. Your updating habits change based on a combination of all these things. In this way, an active website is a development.

Well, this one has developed into something new. Officially, welcome to Nevermore.nu.

Animorphs: The Invasion

The InvasionI told you guys an Animorphs recap was coming. Before I jump into the first book, I want to talk about this series for a little bit because it is more than nostalgia to me. Animorphs was my childhood. I have so many friends I’m still in contact with today that I made from reading this series. Lori, Margie, Matt, Lawren, Holly, Izzah, Laura, Alex, Connor, Tina, Dustin, Katherine, and Vega, I’m talking about you! And those are just the friends I made that are still social enough to be on Facebook today. I know it sounds silly, but this series and the people I met while reading it helped me discover and accept myself. Let’s go back to the beginning, though.

In seventh grade, my Middle School put an emphasis on Language Arts. I guess the school had low reading and writing test scores. As a result, We spent nearly two and a half hours in Language Arts compared to 50 minutes in Math, and poor Science and Social Studies were combined in one 50-minute class. I remember my Science and Social Studies teacher was a man named Mr. Lowe that year, and he was a Social Studies teacher. He was so annoyed that he had to teach Science that year. I digress.

April Update

I think I’m going to just let you guys assume if I don’t update often in a month, school is kicking my butt, and not apologize for lack of updates every entry. 😉 The truth is very little besides school is going on in my life, and I don’t want to be that boring guy who writes about school every entry.

Having said that, school is a large chunk of my life so writing about it is to an extent unavoidable. Balance is key; I just need to write more content. My recaps will hopefully pick back up in a week or so. Finals are next week, and I will have a small break before Summer classes begin. I actually recently started the first Animorphs book out of nostalgia (Amazon recently released the series for Kindle and I couldn’t help myself), so I’ll be adding it to my series of recaps soon. Animorphs is frakkin amazing; if you have not read the series yet, you need to pick it up, no matter how old you are. I actually never finished the series. My plan is to restart it from the beginning and actually read it to the end.
