A Holiday Update

Hey, guys. I hope everyone is having great holidays, no matter which ones you celebrate! I’m enjoying my break from school, but work hasn’t lightened up any. Despite work, I’ve been doing a lot. I’ve been wanting to update everyone, particularly about my financial aid issue, but have been so busy I haven’t had time until now. I’m sorry!

This entry is going to seem somewhat random because I have so much going on that I want to write about. Please bear with me!

Financial Aid Status: As I wrote in my previous entry,  I lost my financial aid for Spring Semester due to a clause that prevents students from failing a class each semester they attend, yet having the state continue to pay for their college. I had extenuating circumstances, and my situation was completely different than what they are used to seeing, but I lost my financial aid all the same. I sent an e-mail to my Psychology instructor from last semester because she took a special interest on me and I knew I could count on her for advice. She connected me with the Dean of Campuses, and he had a financial aid representative call me and correct the problem first thing Monday. I don’t know what Dr. Tam and Dr. Morton said to her, but she made it clear that the issue was going to be fixed that day, which was especially awesome because she told me appeals generally are uncertain and take days. I was granted an appeal, got my financial aid back, and will continue on with my education starting January 8th! I have another two weeks of break, so I’m trying to make the most of my freedom. Been reading books, playing games, and spending time with friends.

Biltmore Estate: Josh and I went to Asheville, North Carolina to get away for a couple of days. While there, we did some wine tasting and did a candle light tour at Biltmore Estate, the nation’s largest privately owned property. It was gorgeous. I liked just being away somewhere with Josh. We needed a vacation, as tiny as that one was.

Haircut: Due to some effective peer pressure, I had my hair cut short. Here’s a before and after picture:

Other Holiday Festivities: This has been a good Christmas season! In addition to touring the Biltmore, Josh and I have made gingerbread men, attended a beautiful candlelight service at our church, looked at Christmas lights, and have already exchanged presents. We did our own Christmas early because we are spending time with family every day until after Christmas. We are at his family’s home now and will be here until Christmas, when we drive back to see my mom and brothers. Josh’s parents live on a lake, and it is beautiful here. I’m relaxing and reading Goosebumps books. (Watch out for reviews soon!)

I got Josh an ice cream maker attachment and a pouring shield for his Kitchen Aid, a cake decorating kit, a blue-tooth utensil set for our kitchen, and a book with organ music. He got me a carrying case for my Switch, The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim for Switch, a couple Harry Potter Funko Pops (Hermione and Dumbledore!), and a backseat dog cover for my car (Helo sheds a LOT).

Here’s a picture of my jacked up gingerbread men and a tree from one of the light shows:

This Christmas is shaping up to be pretty spectacular. Merry Christmas, everyone.

One Response to A Holiday Update

  • This is a very Merry Christmas indeed. I love going anywhere and spending time together! Everything is going to work out perfectly with school, and you are going to be a spectacular math/English/maybe science teacher!!! I’m so proud of everything you have and will accomplish. Your gingerbread may look awful, but at least they were cooked to perfection 😉
